Pilate’s Wife

short story

Pilate’s wife, Claudia, only gets the briefest mention in the Gospel of Matthew. We know so little about her–even her name has only come down to us through pious tradition. In this piece, I’ve imagined her intervening to stop her husband from becoming involved in the Sanhedrin’s case against Jesus.

I was inspired to write this after seeing The Passion of the Christ, and seeing how the screenplay worked Claudia’s dream into the narrative.
